The SdKfz 223 was part of a larger family of German light armored cars, each playing a specific role on the battlefield. The SdKfz 223 served as a command and communications center and was distinguished from the other models by the large aerial frame antenna posted above the vehicle turret. At its core, the SdKfz 223 was a 4x4 vehicle with light armor, crewed by three personnel and armed with a single MG34 7.92mm machine gun for self-defense. Specialized communication and radio equipment were also fitted to the system and entire armored car series (221, 222 and 223 models) saw some 2,118 examples produced from 1936 through the end of the war. Design-wise, the SdKfz 223 had more in common with the SdKfz 221 than the SdKfz 222. Text ©2003-2013 www.MilitaryFactory.com • All Rights Reserved • No Reproduction Permitted
