Seawolf-class Submarines (United States)

Naval Warfare | Ship-Class

The Seawolf-class nuclear-powered attack submarines was once the future of the United States Navy with 29 boats planned - just three were completed.

Arriving at the end of the Cold War (1947-1991) was the Seawolf-class nuclear attack submarine group for the United States Navy. Twenty-nine boats in all were planned for what was to be the future undersea fighting force of the service. However, the end of the Cold War with the Soviet Union coupled with per-unit costs limited the Seawolf-class to just three ships - USS Seawolf, USS Connecticutt and USS Jimmy Carter. All remain in service today.
