Armament of Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin begins with the 5" Mk 45 /54 caliber naval deck gun at front. The ship also carries a 32-cell VLS with SM-2 Block IIIA (RIM-66 Standard) missiles medium-range surface-to-air missiles for air defense. There is also an optional 32-cell bank that can be utilized under a full war load to launch rocket-assisted torpedoes or cruise missiles at sea- or land-based targets. A RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) launcher provides close-in defense against inbound aerial threats. Its trainable mounting gives it flexible engagement angles. At midships is located a pair of AGM-84 Harpoon quad missile launchers for anti-ship duty. Extreme close-in defense work is handled by a 30mm "Goalkeeper" seven-barreled. Gatling-style gun system - comparable to the American 20mm Phalanx installation.
Among Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin's onboard systems is the Raytheon AN/SPS-49(V)5 2D air search radar set. The Thales (Signaal) MW08 3D G-band PESA (Passive, Electronically-Scanned Array) fire control target-marking radar is also fitted. Enemy submarines can be tracked/engaged through the DSQS-23 series hull-mounted active search/attack sonar system. There is also a Daewoo Telecom towed sonar array. Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin is outfitted with four chaff radar countermeasure launchers to help disrupt tracking threats to the ship.
